Personal Reflection:

Reflecting on my journey through this project, I’m reminded of my strong belief in social justice and equity. Witnessing the mistreatment of a person of colour on my first time on a subway sparked something within me. It reinforced the importance of challenging biases and standing up against discrimination. This project has deepened my understanding of the impact of media narratives on spreading societal inequalities, strengthening my need to advocate for inclusivity and fairness.

During my research and creation process, I came to the realization that systemic racism and biased narratives have a devastating impact on marginalized communities. These groups are often misrepresented or underrepresented in mainstream media, which spreads very negative stereotypes and further marginalizes them. It is essential to challenge these existing narratives and advocate for inclusivity in media representation.

My essay is a demonstration of my commitment to this cause. I have dedicated myself to using my skills and platform to amplify people of colour’s voices and encourage more unbiased media representation. By doing so, I hope to help change the narrative and create a more inclusive and fair society.

In selecting images for my visual essay, I aimed to evoke empathy and understanding in the audience, compelling them to confront the pervasive issue of racial injustice in media portrayal.

Throughout my journey, I have learned a lot about the complexities of racial injustice in media. I have come to understand how deeply ingrained these biases are, and how challenging it can be to challenge them. However, I remain motivated and inspired to continue this work, knowing that every step we take towards greater inclusivity is a step towards a more fair and equitable world.

In conclusion, I am proud of the work I have done and the progress I have made. I am committed to continuing this important work and using my voice and platform to advocate for a more inclusive and just society.
